Flat land, terse field flashing bright white from the sun. Tense fingers gnarl and grip at the wood, melding pink and hot white with dark brown sturdiness. A podium, holding strong and standing there aloof and unimpressed by sweaty palmed orators clasping at its reassuring hide, sinking into nervous pat and scratches while begging their mouth not to stammer and flux. A cold organ giving life and civility to the marshy-mouthed speaker doling out platitudes and officialdom. Booming words slice through its skin and exiting with nothing but dead vibrations; nothing stirred nor roused, no satisfaction just duty of the camouflage, role as prop. Whether gavel or microphone, its skin is used to cover those behind in respectability, in a glamour that speaks without words, without its self. A podium announces. Listen to their speech.
Good job voting Americans. Get another insincere, warhawk, corporate dancing monkey to barely change anything for the better. The world doesn’t need a flawed but pragmatic leader like Bernie Sanders, we need a duplicitous pretender lefty who’ll dilly dally with alternative energy and black sites and Gbay like Obama. A true politician with a penchant for political expediency and dragging feet one step forward in a gasping country peering through the smokescreen and marketing. Someone mostly running a campaign without huge corporate donations? How is that not incentive to side with a politician with some legitimacy. Is any candidate with business money not beholden to industry and making concessions when elected? Are we cynical and naive? A bitter Dora the Explorer thinking hope with politics is a good gamble. If I am wrong about Sanders’ donations I’d like to know. He has done some things in the past I was not happy with and I didn’t enjoy the hoopla and reverence he got but damn, there was a chance to have someone intelligent and careful who seemed less of a populist demagogue type. People have gotten all in on this “first” something. First black president, first female PM, and maybe the idea of a first female president. Are there not better candidates for these roles? Wasn’t the young mayor from Louisiana or whatever a good try for black president? Isn’t there a better woman who doesn’t have so much vested interest in corporations and war profiteering? Whaddya got ta sweet talk the media and play the bs game just to have a face on the TV or tube? Bend and bow while playing proud for the ass cash to back up the back end. Green and gold tea parties with the change places mantra hanging in the air. Cabinet movements, promotions, cronyism, business-to-politics-to-business. Why don’t we just call it a giant shell game and the ball is in the left hand, out of sight out of mind out of options. Play me a song while the rulers sack the field, hum me a bar among the cacophony of the dumbfounded, whistle while you twerk and toil under premise of promise.
I curse myself that curses back and leaves me squalor in literary obfuscation. These times when all is topsy turmoil and my interest and attention wane so lowly, lowball stall and confused eye strains. Reading becomes somewhat a chore and sentences blend and disappear into the meandering fantasy thoughts and inner plays of mine mind. So lost and trapped in memories and mental imaginings that take me so very far away from the here and now and the bookie wook love.
I place myself in this realm because I am obsessed with obsessing and ruminating musings. Analytics that lead me astray and proffer nothing more than slight awakenings and scud missile understanding that flounders and misses targets in disarray. Yet I hold on, hold on to hope of epiphanies that do not darken or stab the heart. Maybe one day the gentle understanding that I have inside my head will unleash upon the world and my family, peers and friends.
Still this affliction, affected or infected, makes me vile and angry as a roid raged southern dandy, may the old gods come in handy as I invoke the God of Brandy. Dionysius bacchus that ass up. Sexy vixens they do trollop, upon my head inside the brain, concentration the speeding train. Thoughts sporadical and clueless, Cher the dull brain with the Net. Hang it all I feel like giving up but I flounder on and stuff myself inside my present book. Hard eyeing little words that mock me oh so fierce. Shall I go back to focus and meditation to release me from this grip?
The spacey unfocused Lenny that cannot stay with one task. How I hate his ugly mug and stance and recoil at his advance. It’s on me now but just a phase; learning’s hard my fate embrace. If I could spend an hour just straight reading and consuming, and not be lifted away on the back of forever daydreaming.
I’m a dreamer Tommy. Creativity my desire; playthings playmates, itch of the bitch and flick of the wrist on pads and keyboards not pages and pens. Enthralled by merry mods and games, flashy pictorials turn me from the written word that feeds my brain and humbles me so. Humble to write a blog, humble to assume neutral and impartial, humble to think you sitting there with coffee taking in the eyeful. These words doth reach the populace but not with inspiration but methinks with random procrastination. I should write of other such things besides the inner demons and lack of productive, besides the alcoholic frenzy and the polyphonic spree, and nonesuch rants about the state for nothing turns like pedantry. And not a lick that turns for good for people sick of empty brood, the kind that stokes but no fire and talks some shit about striking empire. But this is no resistance, no Star Wars deliverance where rebels win with persistence and little furries that’s not adult content.
The battlefront is fraught with mines that disseminate the lies that bind. But people want to party and forget and the aftermath is oh shit. For tiresome is that grind to fight the greedy and the blind that are given keys and stock options, let to run amok and then, given free pass no jail sentence. If this was GTA I’d snipe em quick and run away to Tahiti or some place, where coconuts are plentiful and sweet and I have time to read in peace.

There’s talk about vigilante justice and the error of bad blood and the slippery slope. It is said it sets a precedent and people will continue to take the law into their own hands, as if this won’t happen with official state violence and punishments. The police state has done many disastrous things that we are seeing more clearly now and that sets a precedent too. Has it become acceptable for an officer to shoot unarmed black men and boys for fear for their lives? Does any protest automatically deserve riot gear and mass arrests? Why is it that official violence and dismissal of rights is given exemption and defended as the travails of serving the people? Why do we venerate and excuse the amorphous blob of state power and institutional judgement? If taking matters into your own hands and seeking real justice is banned for fear of turbulent futures and antagonisms then surely this syllogism and logic must be appended to law enforcement and the judicial system.
Inaction and dead men and women sets a horrible precedent that echoes its wails long into the future. We should be taking to heart what is developing in recent times as a negative shift in the dissolution of justice and fairness. We bestow power on flawed creatures and give license to corruption easily courted. We solidify laws, regulations, money-wrapped legislation teeming with lobbyist crud, making newer generations play catch up to a freedom to roam in a locked in state world. Less freedom, more choices. The main narrative is blasted along with various opinion and ideology in a blare of sounds. We believe we have fair say, freedom of speech, but the narrative remains, the powerful exert their will on a busy society. The conceptions of law and order, justice, behavioural modification, punishment, are dangling from the past and the workload to update them is a grind to say the least. Unfortunately many of the older generations still cling to this notion of the safety conundrum, the security blanket that has become synonymous with law enforcement and government. New blood falls prey to this logical fallacy as well and we seem to be unable to vanquish this absurd idea and create a transformative legal system actually built on fairness. Money should not be a bargaining chip, greed should not trump truth, justice does not need contact lenses.
And what do we rely on? We can’t exactly rely on ourselves, the “system,” the jurisprudence of a combative and competitive civilization. We are clothed in fallibility and susceptible to coercion, an emperor with no clothes, mute maidens confronting Rumplestilskin. What exactly is law and order in a subjective world? The ever-growing list of mores and rules legislate us into bureaucratic oblivion, we hunger for the limitation of crime and punishment to settle our frames of the box world, Raskolnikovs perturbed by the world’s actions. Ideologies and conventions have no true answer just guesswork compiled on top of each other, religions sputter declarations of tribalism, rooted in the possibly good intentions of sage brutes, international bodies are a joke with the same punchlines. Something new must come along and we can hitch our ride to it. Some kind of careful, moderated revolution that steadily seeps into the collective conscious; modernity for a new century.
Now there is the question of good as has always been the case, but now we modify our notions based on a new understanding of people’s wants, their desire to be seen and treated in their own way. Transgenders, asexuals, queer anarchists, neoliberal hippies. We have a conglomerate of needs and an objective to be subjective, to make the world a bed of snowflakes each unique within the storm. Why should we not do this little social dance, does it take much time to respect an identity? Does identity politics need subversion, aversion, conversion? Let the human, Dasein, hold his own reflection and speak his own truth into the heart of a turning world. We are better than our worst nature.

Kazakhstan is the new Ukraine. With a large Russian population they are ripe for sectarian violence and oppositional attitudes. Within the next decade there could be disillusionment with the reigning government and a rosy-eyed view of pro-Russian merging. It seems there is a strategic envelopment plan going on with the bordered countries that aren’t panning out but there is support for Russian intervention that isn’t American borne.
Whether there is this notion of destabilizing different regions to weaken military and/or cultural resistance or test the limits of Russia’s power is up in the air. All major player countries are vying for power grabs and look to neighbors for domination or at the very least economic control via upper hand in trade and commerce. America, Russia, China, they all try to gather supplicant nations to enhance their power, authority, political pull. Russia is just the highlight now by western media and politicians but the pattern is there repeating itself. Foreign powers exerting force for trick or treat ends.
Humans are going to waste precious time fighting holy wars and battles of ideology to prove which culture is superior. The domination of particular value systems; social theory Risk games. Throwing money at endless campaigns and clashes while ignoring social ills and failed policy rewrapped and reinserted. Economists, Fundamentalists, war profiteers, the chain of advantage is choking the people while the hands of the elite gain wealth.
We get full scale disputes with obstinate leaders bickering over secrets and ceasefires. Shady men replete with self-importance deciding the fate of people’s lives “over there.” We forever get the shock and awe treatment, pilfering other countries and then setting up a new enemy; boogeymen and evildoers. We call all this modernization and progress yet we stick to the same old habits and cling to old resource-driven lifestyles. Moneymaking is a wonderful thing.
The world is trapped between the poles of extremism and political resistance. Both seem to be deserving of brutal policing and authoritarianism, attacks on all sides; cannons to the left of them. Social upheaval is a fool’s paradise lost, swayed by the caprice of the majority. The proles are slowly sifting through the sands of time to reach the understanding of our social dysfunction. Our systems, our laws, are decaying like the Coliseum, this patchwork is proving useless. We don’t need paint jobs we need representation of the needs of the many. Logically possible.
We’re stuck in this setup of us vs. them. The “Other” that keeps floating about infecting new minds. This diluted nationalism that’s thrown into the feed bag. We’re off to the races working for someone else’s goals. Corporate military political jockeys whipping up a storm inside the military-industrial complex. Wars at home, wars overseas. Just a lot of fire ants defending the hill…

Every day mining is ruining ecosystems and the environment of shoddily protected lands. Canadian mining is getting a run for its money, at home it creates pollution of the waters and flora and fauna with little to no interjection by MPs or interference by government overseers. They were allowed to use local waters to clean up their tools of the trade and materials by the Harper government a couple years ago, news buried on page 34. The Harper gov. even rescheduled bodies of water in local communities as some bland categorization to get around the rules and regulations applied to the industry. What is the point of having laws and regulatory frameworks and organizations if we can dismiss them and dance with loopholes towards another environmental disaster and another community sullen and wrecked by big business? Industry has too much sway and expects the kind hand always.
Now there’s issues with mining in Chile where the industry is causing damage to the icy mountains along with other factors separate from them. I think about the materia (had to be all geeky with Final Fantasy reference) that is surrounding these issues and how we all eventually contribute to it. Copper, gold, silver, platinum and the like. Every product we purchase, for ourselves or others, is a contribution to this atrocity. Can we really stop ourselves and boycott all these products until fairness prevails? Judging from Apple products (yes I bought a Macbook 7 years ago) flying off the shelves amid horrible working conditions and all manner of Chinese, Taiwanese and Bangladesh products being cheaply made and exported to North America, I’d say not likely. We cannot extinguish our consumerist ways, we do not curtail the spend spend mentality and how could we stop so easily. Everything is geared towards buying in this western world, newness is idolized and fawned over, holidays are established around gift giving and buying more stuff. Like Carlin said, we need a house just to keep our shit in, and my shit is important.
I’m not a Luddite or against capitalism completely but it is far too damaging. The costs of it outweighs the benefit, the giving tree is withered and cold. All that jewelry we buy is contributing to this mine mania, even the cheap ones have those ill-gotten metals that came from corruption and destruction. Indigenous communities are the worst hit usually and their stories are long forgotten and barely register on the tapestry of modern media matters. We can hew and cry about Charlie Hebdo but what about Native peoples suffering from pollution, contaminated water, sick and dying animals and all manner of diseases and sickness that inevitably rises from the ashes of nature. The real stories are glossed over as if they weren’t dire or sensational enough. Plenty complain about the mainstream media. You can find more diatribes on news culture and professionalism that are more poignant and funnier in the blogosphere than there are news channels. So I will say our priorities are messed up and all this happy happy joy joy positive thinking no bad news thing is not helping anyone except the delusional and self-involved. We need more coverage, we need more social media doing what it has the potential to do. The Arab Spring debacle was a boon to the technology but it’s not enough. But, the amount of egregious things happening in this twisted world is really too much for the psyche, so much stress about things you may not be able to do anything about. You can do something though, your money talks better than you can. The BDS movement shows how we spend makes impacts, we need real consciousness now not platitudes and prayers. People calling themselves religious and ignoring these issues are kidding themselves, the taboo of not talking about politics or serious issues is killing people like it or not. Maybe it’s better not to be liked if it means keeping it real and actually caring about something other than your own little world. Care about things.
But it’s all about jobs jobs jobs. Alberta needs those tarsands jobs and money they’ve been saying for years. The industry has spent millions on advertising how good and important the work is when they could be helping the communities they destroy. They could actually give a shit and clean up their own mess, seems people forget their kindergarden lessons. Well these politicians and business types need a spanking, a hard one. My hand is itching for a whacking, I fantasize about red bums and shattered hands. These problems will not be on the agenda though, the elections that are coming will not highlight the dangers and outline a workaround, no leaders are here to influence us to do better, buy better, be better. Cynical yes, but history shows so much is under the radar. Industry can do what they feel like, money greases the wheel that turns this world of consumption. It’s disgusting but it’s home.
